Warranty Checklist- What to Look for in a Used Car Warranty
With so many different extended auto warranty companies to choose from it can be difficult to know which one to buy.
We have compiled a list of things you should look for before you buy a warranty. Use this as a checklist to make sure a company measures up to the standards we have set up at ExtendedCarWarrantys.com.
Good BBB Rating

If the warranty company is not even listed with the BBB don’t even consider it, but just because they ARE listed does not make them a company you should do business with though. There are plenty companies with an A+ rating and you can check them out at our reviews page here.
Backed by Strong Insurance

Long Track Record

Make sure the company has been around for a few years or more and is not completely new. You don’t want to be the guinea pig here. There are solid, reputable warranty businesses that have been around for 10 years + so there is no sense in working with the new kid on the block.
Claims Are Paid Directly

Make sure the company will pay for the auto repairs directly to the auto repair shop. There are many companies that promise to reimburse you. This is a bad deal. You will end up waiting for that check to come in and most of the time you will be waiting in vain. There are solid companies which will pay the shop directly via a company credit card and you will not have to spend a penny out of pocket.
List of Covered Parts

First of all, you should be able to read the contract before you buy, and this contract should also show you what parts are covered and which are not. If you buy exclusionary coverage you will see a list of what is NOT covered since the list of what is covered is so long. Just make sure you can see the terms and read that fine print to make sure you will be covered for the necessary parts.
Covered for Parts AND Labor

Beware of companies that will only pay for the cost of the parts but will leave the bill for labor up to you. Labor costs are only going up and they can be as much as $100 per hour and more. You do not have to pay for this cost if you buy from a good company like one we recommend, but again you should always read the contract to make sure.
Money Back Guarantee

A good vehicle protection plan will offer a 30-60 day money back guarantee, so if you are unsatisfied with your service in any way you can get your money back. Keep in mind that if you actually filed a claim in that duration you will not be able to get your money back because you actually benefited from the service. A company that offers a guarantee like this will give you more peace of mind that they will live up to their promises and meet their obligations.
